Within a number of minutes Stephanie arrived on the eighth floor without being seen. She avoided all cameras to ensure she would not be spotted. She stood right in front of the door which read CEO with a triumphant look on her face. All the hurdles had been successfully crossed and she was finally in front of the winning prize.
“Excuse me Madam.”
“This is your mobile….” Stephanie turned to see it was an advert playing on the giant screen in the far end of the office. “That was a close one.” She sighed in relief. She had to get in and finish what she came to do before someone came in for real. The knob turned with ease.
Anthony was seated in his seat buried in loads of paper work oblivious to the person standing in front of him. “Francesca, I thought I asked you to go home? Please put the files on the desk and leave. See you tomorrow.”
“So Francesca is the new toy you have been playing with? I see”
Anthony looked up his desk to see the person in front of him. “And who are you?”
“Well hello to you too my dear husband”
Anthony dropped his pen to the ground “What are you doing here?” he asked, his voice laced with anger
Stephanie laughed hysterically. “I came to see my dear husband. I miss him.”
“Get out quietly before I call security.” He stood to pick up his phone
“I wouldn’t try that if I were you; I have a gun”
Anthony turned to look at Stephanie with no feeling whatsoever left in his eyes. “You think I am afraid to die?” he laughed bitterly “I could not be bothered. I will gladly die to be free from you.”
Stephanie stood in shock, “Free from me? You must love only me! Me! Do you understand? Can’t you see I love you Tony? I am carrying your baby for goodness sake!”
“Oh please, you very well know that bastard is not mine”
“Oh save it will you?” he snapped “Like I have always said, I was never yours to begin with. I had you checked out and I found out everything; your calls, and emails. I know the father is Kwabena Benson, your high school buddy.”
“Bu… bu… but how?”
“You are surprised, aren’t you?” Anthony laughed.
You are unbelievable you know?” he shook his head in disgust “You expect me to live with you after all this? You expect me to love the woman who was wicked enough to destroy the love between two people by forcing another man’s child on me? I know you never wanted me Steph, you just wanted to see your sister miserable and you succeeded in doing far worse. You pushed her to go away to God knows where with my unborn child and now I am going to be deprived of ever seeing my child, being with the woman I love…” He turned to towards the door.
“If I cannot have you, no one else will”
Anthony heard a click behind him. “What are you doing Steph?”
“I told you Adjetey” she switched hands to steady the revolver in her trembling hands. “If I cannot have you, no one else will. How is this any of my fault huh, tell me? The poor girl could not keep up with the competition and ran off. No one asked her to do that.”
“You are sick Steph. You need help”
“I am not sick!” she yelled “I do not need anyone’s help! Why does everyone keep saying I am sick? All I need is for you to come home, I need you to love me!” she cried
Seeing she was distracted at the moment, Anthony maneuvered his way to her, grabbing her hand to twist it. She would not budge. For a heavily pregnant woman, Stephanie was stronger than he imagined. They fell to on the sofa, pushing and pulling, each person struggling for control.
“For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.”
